The Equine & Canine News was co-founded and created by Jessica Johnson-Segal, who was fulfilling a dream while serving a need for horse and dog lovers alike. Jessica works closely with her mom and co-founder, Nola Johnson, who loves putting her sales and business experience to work. Jessica’s hunch was right that dog and horse lovers alike would appreciate a full color, locally-based publication with informative articles and local events. It has become so popular that they have extended coverage to the San Fernando Valley, which offers a booming horse community and a dog shop on just about every corner. Jessica, Nola and their sales reps attend nearly every horse and dog event in Southern California between San Luis Obispo, Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties and the San Fernando Valley to meet and greet readers, vendors, and clients. Be sure and introduce yourself if you see them at an event!
Jessica’s son, William, will be celebrating his 2nd birthday on April 2, 2014. Grandma Nola has been doing double duty working on the paper and babysitting — needless to say, it’s an exciting and busy time!
We are now in our third year and it is bringing even more success and growth for Equine & Canine News. We are very blessed. The first issue in April 2011 had 32 pages; the current issue has 64 pages. In addition the circulation has increased by 60%, and now 12,000 copies are being delivered in four counties. We are currently in about 400 retail locations.
Equine & Canine News‘ foundation belief to support local organizations, businesses and events is seen in their many sponsorships and supports including the Ventura County Dog Fanciers All Breed Dog Show, Parks 4 Pups, Santa Maria Kennel Club, Bark for Life, Foxfield Horse Show & Derby, all horse and dog related events at Earl Warren Showgrounds, and the AHASFV All Breed Horse Show. In addition we have a close working relationship with the Ventura County Fair, PCQHA, Horsemen’s Re-Union held Paso Robles Event Center, Santa Barbara County Fair, and the Santa Barbara Fiesta Rodeo. Equine & Canine News is proud to offer discounts to all nonprofits and supports the American Cancer Society.
All of us here at Equine & Canine News want to extend our deepest appreciation to all of you; our readers, vendors, advertisers, venues, partners and friends for your incredible support that has contributed to ongoing success. It has been great meeting all of you and making new friends.
